The Neck Pillow

So here we are.....doctor believes it is a type of muscular reaction to her strep throat...basically her neck is 'stuck'.

When she is asleep she is fine~her muscles are relaxed and she is able to roll over from one side to the other. When she is awake, the weight of her head and her anxiety about her neck hurting her makes her tense up. She has been on Motrin for 4 days to help with the pain and now we have this lovely soft neck brace which is supposed to help hold her neck up and take some of the pressure off of her neck.

She wanted nothing to do with the brace initially but once I talked her into it with "4 year old, 4 minute rule" she discovered it actually felt better when she wore it. It does get hot though so she wears it on and off during the day and not at all when she is sleeping.

We have a follow up on Wednesday..............

Pain in the Neck

So germs have been the most interesting thing in our house lately~sigh! Ran Molly to Urgent Care today. She was just crying and crying about her neck hurting, she could barely move it, her shoulders looked so tense. I was talking to a friend on the way there (thanks Kari!) and she mentioned chiropractic care which made me think about Ballet. She had been complaining about her head hurting prior to ballet, but it was after that it really bothered her. I just assumed that all the bouncing around put her over the edge, but I had not explored the possibility that she may have injured herself. So I started to ask the 'right' questions.
Did something during ballet hurt your neck?
Mrs. Davis had us put our heads back.
Is that when it started to hurt?
Yes.
Were you sitting or standing?
Just standing.
But that's when it started it to hurt?
Yes
So I explained the newest developments to the Dr. and we decided that we had two different issues, strep being one and a pulled or agitated neck muscle as the other. We picked up a 'fun' heating pad on the way home and hit her with some more Motrin. This afternoon has been much better than the previous 48 hours. Lesson learned: Sometimes you just have to ask the right questions.

Little Pink Bottles

I have two little pink bottles in my refrigerator. One for Taylor for her ear infection and now one for Molly for her strep throat....lovely!

No Recess?

I was just making conversation with Taylor yesterday when I asked her if she went out for recess (since she didn't feel well) she said "No, I had to write" This raised some red flags for my teacher ears.
"Why did you have to write?"
"I was goofing around"
"Please explain"
I guess one of her little friends kept dropping her eraser and Taylor kept picking it up.

Papa Bear wanted to know why she got in trouble for that....Mama Bear reminded him that Taylor's story is her version of what happened and that I'm sure the teacher had already warned the girls to get to work rather than continue to be 'goofy'. So we talked about how next time Taylor would ignore her little friend or tell the teacher. 1st grade is rough!

Achoo, Sniffle, Sniffle

So I guess I'm sick. Ug!

Taylor went back to school Tuesday only to be sent home before lunch because her ear hurt so bad she was crying at her desk. Poor kiddo! She came home and cried some more. Taylor is not a crier so I knew it must really hurt.

I gave her some Motrin and then she said she heard something in her ear and that it didn't hurt anymore. Hmmmm, that can't be good.

She went to the doctor later with Chris and came home with an ear infection. She still needed Motrin to take the edge off before bed though.

Wednesday I let her go in late so I could get another dose of her med in her and make sure she didn't need any Motrin. She seemed OK by 9am so off to school she went~~~~

A Virus

We have a goofy virus in the house. Taylor woke up early Saturday, January 10 vomiting. It lasted about 36 hours and also had a fever that went with it. At the end of day two I noticed a viral rash (red, slightly raised, blotchy, not itchy) over her tummy, chest, and top of her legs. She missed two days of school. Molly started with a fever and lethargy on Thursday, January 15. She had a temperature for 48 hours and develped a viral rash on day three. Molly has not had any vomiting, her appettite has been touch and go. She complains about goofy things "My tongue feels red" "My mouth itches" It's hard sometimes to tell when it's real and not just "molly drama". Morgan started today, January 17 right around noon with a fever and she already has a viral rash over most of her torso. I have had a headache and sore throat all day along with aches and pains (which are probably from trying to do a work out video...ha..ha....what a joke that was!) So for now I'm operating on "mind over matter". If this continues....Lacey should be sick within 24 hours and hopefully it will by-pass Chris all together. It could be worse!
