Colors and Shapes

The past two weeks of preschool time we have been reviewing colors and shapes.

For our study of shapes we made a 'pizza' and added to it every day.

Monday we added circle pepperoni.

Tuesday we added rectangle cheese.

Wednesday was triangle peppers.

And Thursday was square ham.

For colors we used Brown Bear Brown Bear....cute!



Morgan Morgan Ballerina

Morgan had her first ballet class today!

We've been talking about it for weeks and counting it down on the calendar.  She even started telling me the names of the girls in her class...before she met them!

Today was all about ballet...when is ballet...after snack...when is snack...after nap...when is nap...after lunch...you get the idea...

Finally snack arrived.

Then she got dressed and tried out some ballet moves for me.

Morgan's little friend is going with her.

I asked them to show me how they can make their heels kiss.

Morgan was a little nervous.

Chris said she went in with the other girls and found her 'x' on the floor.



After it was all said and done Morgan's nerves got the best of her. She didn't participate much at all.  Mrs. Davis said she skipped across the floor once.  The rest of the evening all we heard about was how she didn't want to go back to ballet.  Mrs. Davis encouraged us not to give up on her yet.  And we won't. Back on the calendar...6 more days to go...and you will do a great job!

12 hours of Independence

We left SP at 8:45 am and returned home at 8:45 pm.  The team name is Independence.

We traveled...and traveled...and traveled...1 hour and 18 minutes according to MapQuest...assuming you don't get lost...if you get lost it takes you 1 hour and 40 minutes...just so you know!  I mean really...who puts two streets named 100 so flippin close to each other....

Anyway...I pulled over and asked for directions...and we made it!

Taylor is number 3....fidgeting with her hair on the end...listening to a last minute pep talk from coach.

The weather forecast was not good for the day...but thankfully by the time Taylor played the rain had come to an end...and by the last game of the day the sun was shining.

She played hard.  Knocked to the ground and pops back up again.  Someone called her 'scrappy'...and I couldn't agree more...very proud of her willingness to get in there and fight for the ball.

This was our 'home away from home' for the day.

Her first two games didn't allow much time inbetween...so we grabbed some lunch...changed out of damp clothes and got ready for game number two.

I worked on my competition induced tourettes syndrome.  Last year I was calm, cool, and collected...this year I'm jumping out of my seat and yelling as if she can actually hear me....I physically clasped my hand over my mouth a few times....my comments were supportive and encouraging at all times...just a little loud.  I'm work'in on it.

Inbetween games two and three we had 3 hours to burn.  So what's a girl to do?????

Paint some nails!  What color?  Red!  'Red'y To Score a Goal Red.....sorry, that was bad!

And played some cards. 

Time to get ready for game 3.

After another hard played game the girls were thrilled to collect their trophies.

Way to go Team Independence!

First Day of School

First day of school picture in front of the house....c'mon girls...taylor, relax, we are not late....

That is not the bus....

Honestly, girls we have plenty of time...

Once we were at the park, they both relaxed enough to take some more pictures.  This neighborhood group has grown up together and this year the three third graders are in the same classroom and the three first graders are in the same classroom...bring on the crazy!

The girls took the bus and I drove to school to make sure they found their lines and to give one more round of love before they started their day.  Both girls were excited to be back.

Then I went to lunch with some other happy mommys!

First day was a half day.  After a quick lunch we headed out to celebrate the new school year.  We visited the new children's museum! 

Saw some familiar exhibits and many new.

The girls liked the overhead fossil.

I liked it when they weren't running on it...

The water exhibit was cool...what kid doesn't like to play in water.  Smocks were provided but we declined and got a little wet...oh well...

The architectual elements were beautiful and functional.  When I first saw them I assumed the water ran through the pillars of glass....upon further investigation the water ran over and down them...cool!

A favorite from the previous museum was the food counter.  This re-used display had the addition of some fun oven doors and more cloth food to make pizzas and pies.  The girls enjoyed serving Grandma Sue some of their labor.

We spent a good amount of time in the shadow room....another oldie but goodie.  This shadow room had a bigger space...a bigger shadow wall...and more pens for laser writing.  Taylor tried to catch her jumping shadow and Lacey liked her robot.

The window painting was messy but fun.  They did wear the smocks for this display.  I'm not sure which they enjoyed more...the actual painting...or the spray bottle and squeegie to clean up after yourself....

More new stuff!  Rooftop exhibits~with a view!

Dress-up....without cringing too much I allowed the girls to have a little fun in the window display.

Thank you very much Grandma Sue for gifting us with a family pass to the museum, we will definitely go back again and again. 

After an early evening melt-down we headed to our last hurrah.....dinner!

To a new school year, to new adventures, to new friends and for the love of family.
