Molly and I went to see Cinderella with her godmother, Kari, today. It was an experience. A few highlights:
About 5 minutes into the performance....
Molly: "Can she talk?"
Me: "Yes, she can talk. But this is a ballet, so it's only music and dancing."
During the scene where Cinderella approaches the ball the actors would alternate 'freezing' into position to allow for two separate events to come together....
Molly: "Why are they standing like that?"
Me: "They are pretending to be stuck so that we can watch Cinderella enter the ballroom."
*pause*
Molly: "Can they breathe?"
Me: "Yes, they are breathing. They can breathe while they stand really still."
*pause*
Molly: "My doll is not moving and she is not breathing."
Me: *sigh* "Yes, but your doll is not alive. The actors on stage are alive, they are just pretending to be frozen."
Honestly, for a 'real' ballet she did really well. 90 minutes (with a 15 minute intermission) is a long time with no speaking....right Kari : )
It really was beautiful. Scenery, costumes, music, just amazing! And the little ballet dancers were adorable! The little boys that performed the dance of midnight where very cute but reminded me of 12 little oompa loompas. HA
And they all lived happily ever after...................
